Names, funny things aren't they. I mean we've all got one. It's how we identify ourselves, our name makes us who we are. I don't have many skills but I'm blummin excellent at remembering names. It's a good job really considering the amount of people I see each week. I try very hard to get the pronunciation right, sometimes I can't remember but instead of risking getting it wrong I kinda just miss their name out whist frantically the memory brain cogs race around opening every filing cabinet and folder in my brain looking for the illusive name. Got it, I breath a sigh of relief and use their name several times in the next few sentences.

Having an unusual name growing up had its challenges, people were often suprised to find out I'm not German. Of course these days there isn't such a thing as an unusual name. Anything goes, I do think calling your kid after where they were conceived is kinda weird as is after your favourite car or after a landmark. I mean who wants to be named after Blackpool Tower!

What I do find interesting is the resurgence of old fashioned names, there is loads of Harry's, Henry's, Freddie, Sidneys, Alfies etc but where are the Hildas, Edna's, Doris's, Doreens & Maureen's now? How come only the boys names became cool? And I wonder when 80s names will be back? In 2030 will the primary schools be full of Sarah's Lisa's, Tracey's, Peters, Martins & Richards? Somehow I doubt it....

So let's get back to pronunciation, my unusual name is Kierston and it still is unusual. There ain't many of us here in the UK. Its Scandinavian and no I'm not from Norway. I'm from a little village in the West Midlands in the heart of England - Not even a smidge of viking in me!
Its pronounced 'key ston' or 'key er ston' or even 'kia ston' depending on your accent! Many people shorten my name to Kie (Key) its not Kirston, Kirstin Kirsty, Kieron, Kira, Kia, Kye or any other variations. To be honest though I answer to any of those, the problem is some people have said my name for so long that it's now weird to correct them.

I always correct someone twice, after that I give up and often become known as Kirston for as long as I know that person. Sometimes I'm tempted to say or spell their name wrong but my obsession with getting their name correct overrules.
My friend often corrects people if they get my name wrong and will say doesn't it drive you nuts and my reply is I didn't even realise they said my name wrong!

So if you are reading this and you have been getting my name wrong forever don't worry, I understand, its the pitfall of having a weird name but don't be suprised if I start calling you something totally random.

Oh and let's bring back Doris and Edna's!

How did I used to shop before Amazon and more to the point how did
I cope without Amazon prime? I’m very impatient when I decide I want something
- I want it now! So let’s drive to town, find a parking space and battle with
the parking metre. Why does it seem so technical, I just want to pay for an
hours parking? Great it’s raining, so now I have to dodge the rain dashing in
and out of the shops looking for desired item to find its out of stock when I
get there and queued with all the other muppets and I even smile sweetly at the
shop assistant who scowled back at me. How dare I smile! Why would I put myself
through such torture when I could have purchased £5 cheaper from Amazon and had
it delivered to my door within 24 hours. It’s a no brainer really isn’t it.....

My Amazon order history is
quite diverse, ranging from Lego to envelopes to washing powder. I think I
treat it as an extension of Sainsbury’s. This week was Prime day, ooooh how
exciting. What bargains can I buy, what can Amazon tempt me with I think. I subscribe
to a couple of websites which bombarded me with WhatsApp messages over the two
Prime days seducing me to click the links. Do I really need a bottle of alcohol
free passion fruit vodka or 27 rolls of toilet paper. I know I know I really do
need a hot tub, a dinosaur paddling pool, 33 chocolate bath bombs, a wedding
dress (perhaps I should look for a groom first) 24 bottles of sparkling
mountain water, 15 bars of unicorn soap, a giant soft llama toy and an
inflatable flamingo drinks holder. Come on you guys it’s a steal. That
lot came to £54 instead of £600 or was it £60??

Ok so I didn’t really purchase
that lot, actually all I did get was an Alexa, bottle of Whiskey and a board
game. I was seriously tempted by the giant Llama though.

My point is do we really need
this stuff. We live in such a commercial society when we buy what we want when
we want cheaply these days. I’m not that old (no seriously I’m not) but I
remember when I was younger I really wanted the M People cassette (ok maybe I
am that old) I had to wait for my birthday for my nan to get it. These days if
you want an album you just download it in seconds. I’ve been an Amazon customer
since 2000, I think I would be horrified if I added up my spend. I probably
could have put a deposit on a house!

So Amazon Prime I love to hate
you but I’m not planning on cancelling Prime.....not just yet anyway. I’ve just
seen a solar powered ornamental mole that would look fabulous in my garden near
the flamingo!

Dating apps. I've got quite a lot to say about them. Being single in 2018 is quite an eye opener, the world has changed. People no longer go to the pub and chat each other up. Now you have download an app to your phone and swipe left or right depending on if you fancy their photo. But before you even do that you have to add your own photos and a profile. How do I sell myself without sounding like a total tool. You have to give you the information about yourself before you even start. I remember meeting blokes in the pub back in the 90s and you just used to chat and if you liked each other you'd stay chatting all night then arrange to meet. You didn't tell them all your hobbies, your life story, what car you drive or your favourite foods all in one night! Anyway I digress so once you've put together an advert for yourself then you have to chose some photos. Now do I pick a really glamorous one of me looking amazing or a quick now selfie which shows the real me? Thing is I don't really look like either as I'm not glamorous all the time, however I wouldn't leave the house looking the way I do now (thank goodness this isn't a vlog!) Then there is the body photo, do you just do head shots or be totally honest and post a full body shot curves and sizeable arse for the world to see! See in real life they would see you straight away so I'm thinking be honest. Right so pics with no filters posted (why do women keep adding dog ears to their photos?) advert posted. Lets see what happens next.

Now if you are using Tinder you have to start swiping left and right or nothing happens so off we go. Nope nope nope, bald, too hairy, too good looking, too old, too young! jeez louise why is he holding a fish - nope! No no no posing by a sports car, no to running, climbing a mountain or in the gym. No to a women in the picture, no if your photo is sideways or upside down, no if you have a silly meme and no if the background of your photo is a messy house definitely not! Is there anyone left? Yeah a couple get swiped right and if you are lucky you get a little whoosh across the screen saying 'It's a match!' That means he swiped on me too, happy days.

I've read his profile he looks ok so now we wait and wait and wait and absolutely nothing happens........On Tinder does anyone actually message anyone? So next time I get a match I message first but still nothing. Maybe its me...

I counted, I had 40 matches, only 2 people started or responded to a conversation. What is the point of this app. Il come back to the messages later.

Plenty of Fish or POF as its endearingly known as is similar to Tinder but there's way more information, you can add lots to your profile. You can add all that information you normally share over a period of weeks in just one go. So do you have pets or do you want children, do you drink, are you religious, what colour hair and eyes, do you drive, whats your favourite book, oh it goes on and on. And unlike Tinder on POF anyone can message anyone. Oh boy this does open a can of worms.
So my profile and pics are set up and whoooosh here come the messages.
In just minutes my inbox has 50 odd messages in, wow I feel so popular until I open them. Good grief who are these men, when do they live cus I do not want to go there .

There seems to be categories of men

Mr Sport - he has photos of him doing various sports, running, climbing, lifting weights etc. In his profile it says he loves working out and keeping fit and wants to find a like minded woman. Ok so some of these guys are genuine sporty men but the majority think that posting ONE picture and saying they work out impresses the ladies. It doesn't, we know that you joined Fitness First 10 months ago but have only been twice.

Mr Gorgeous - The beautiful hipster with beard and tattoos knows he's good looking. He comes across all casual in his profile, saying hes just a genuine guy looking for a lovely lady. Seriously this guy already has several ladies on speed dial! He's probably got a topless picture of him standing under a waterfall in Thailand on his profile by the way.

Mr Desperate - 'Hi just wanted to say how gorgeous you are and would you please talk to me even if its just to say you don't like me, please don't ignore me' When you don't respond in 30 seconds you get another message saying 'Thanks for not replying, girls like you are all the same' Ok whatever, block!

Mr Fetish - His profile pic is from 50 shades of grey and the message he sends I cant help but read outloud in a Dracula type voice 'My beautiful lady, I would love to see more of you' Yeah bet you would mister, you ain't sinking those fangs anywhere near me.

Mr Love Machine - Lotharios rejoice, you know have a legitimate place to tell everyone how amazing you are and get those bedpost notches into triple figures! His profile says he knows how to treat a lady. I bet it's with a bag of chips and a pint of lager down the club....

The Lad - Several photos of him with his arms around other blokes, which one are you? Silly photos of him pulling faces or in fancy dress. Hes been on POF and Tinder for 3 years, been on numerous dates but still never found the one.

Mr Married - Yep there is loads of married guys on these apps, hes got a nice profile and at first it all seems good until he says 'oh by the way I still live with my wife, we don't get on, we sleep in separate bedrooms and don't have any relationship but I cant leave her because of the kids' Ooooo K

Mr Didn't I do well for myself - Eugh this one is the worst, profile pics of a red sports car, him holding a giant fish, his huge house and a photo of him standing all tanned in Dubai or worse in business class airport lounge. His profile says hes self employed. Well done bloke, I can see you've done well. However something is wrong as you on a dating app, If you want to attract gold diggers that are going to spend all your money then you've sold yourself well. Good luck

And then there is Mr Normal - Yeah this is just your regular guy. The guy you want to meet. His pics look normal, his profile reads normal. Hes divorced, got 2 kids that he sees every week, he drives, has a job and it's all looking good.

I'm 45 so myfishing pool for men is loosely 38-55. Ive noticed something really interesting with this age group. They want a young supermodel with perky breasts, flat stomach, no wrinkles or grey hair. Hey guys have you looked in the mirror, how are your perky moobs, beer belly, wrinkles and grey hair today? The girl you are looking for is hanging out with 27 year old Dale who actually works out 6 times a week and has abs you can play a tune on! Get real guys! Yeah she's with him ⇣⇣⇣⇣

So the messages, well this is where it all gets interesting. The problem with POF is it shows you are on line so you can't just have a mooch and read a few messages without getting disturbed. Once you are on line the messages just keep coming. 99% I don't even reply to so if you are reading this and we have chatted then your profile must have been good. Chat up lines are the worst but to be honest I don't know how to start a message conversation either so I'm not gonna judge someone on their opening line. I'm utterly rubbish at this, for someone who talks a lot and spends a lot of time with people listening and talking I cannot hold a text conversation with a stranger. The problem is for me it's just too slow. The waiting for a response, not seeing a visual reply, mannerisms, gestures all that. Just a few words on a screen. Was he being funny or not? I'm quite dry and love a banter, unfortunately it doesn't come over on messages and I often come across wrong.

I'm also quick with my replies, I worked in a garage for 22 years, in that male dominated environment you need to be able to stand up for yourself and take the banter. I need the quick fire conversation not a waiting for a message. To be honest I get really bored and often flip between apps so if I didn't reply straight away its because I was on YouTube watching a cat video or on Facebook checking out Marys 74 photos of her holiday in Tenerife. (who is Mary by the way, do I know her, she's on my friends?) Then I will go and put the kettle on or start the tea or ring my sister. You know how you do. So unfortunately guys you do not have my undivided attention in a text conversation. And you know the worst I'm rubbish for closing apps so it looks like I'm still on line in POF. The guy I was chatting to probably things I'm talking to loads of other guys and ignoring him but I actually I was still watching the cat video! My sister got hold of me angrily the other day. 'How can you be online on whatsapp and facebook but ignoring my messages and my calls' Erm well my phone is on charge downstairs with all those apps open and I'm working on the computer upstairs. Note to self - close apps!

How you finding POF? Been on many dates? What do you in you free time? Let's start with that one. What do I do in my free time, free time, what's that? I have a business, a home, 2 cats and a 8 year old. Free time is about 10.30pm when I finally get to watch something on Netflix by myself and then I fall asleep and wake up at 1am with a cat meowing at me!
Free time means arranging a babysitter and the problem is they are in short supply and if I'm honest I'm reluctant to ask because then you have to say why. I kinda like keeping my life private. Let's go back to the conversations. Seriously guys since when is sending a photo of your manhood a conversation, did I miss the memo? Neither do I want to meet you at the Travel Lodge, send you a nude pic of myself or pander to your weird fetish of wearing a pink latex gimp mask. See ya!

So arranging dates, this is so hard for me. I've not been on actual dates any except I briefly met this guy I'd been chatting to for nearly a year. Hes funny, I like him and we have a good banter but that's it. Hes a mate not a date! Anyway to want to meet someone I have to really fancy them and as of yet I've never really fancied a photo. I need to see someone, mannerisms, smell, how they carry themselves, how they sound, how they respond etc. I'd never dismiss men the way I do on dating apps in real life. I actually annoy myself on how dismissive I am, I think its because this whole process is so boring and fake. I'm not remotely excited by it all. I know you are saying well you have to meet them don't you but the thought of going to a pub and meeting a stranger for an awkward drink with awkward conversation fills me with dread.

The other day I was told I was too laid back and 'you snooze, you lose' because whilst he had been chatting to me another lady had come along and asked for a date straight away! Ok then, sorry I'm not that desperate, I'm alright with that. Unfortunate thing was I actually liked this one, we had lots in common and I would have met him but his odd action showed we were looking for something quite different. In real life you have a one on one conversation, you don't stand at the bar keeping turning round to talk to different people in the middle of a conversation but on dating apps people have multi conversations constantly looking for someone better, never satisfied. My profile said looking for dating, guys have told me maybe I'm not ready for dating, I disagree I'm definitely ready to meet someone, I can't tell him if I want a relationship or whether I really like him yet because that takes time.

Right now I'd be happy to go back to old fashioned courting when you don't see someone all the time and you don't move in together after 3 weeks. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I'm happy to take things slow and find the right one. Enjoy meals out, a costa coffee during the day, a movie at the cinema or just a home cooked meal and a chill on the sofa. I've been on and off POF for a year and the same men are there still looking for the illusive perfect woman which is why I've now totally shut down my accounts and deleted the apps. I've decided it doesn't work for me.

I know there is many success stories out there and well done, I admire your patience and tolerance for sifting through the dross and finding your Mr or Mrs Right. 💗

And for any potential suitors out there feel free to message, I may or may not reply!

Love to you all
Il be honest, it doesnt always go to plan but I try all the same. My sister buys me the same diary every year (at my request!) and I love it, it has loads of columns for me to plan mine appointments, Nathaniels hectic social life, Slimming World note as well as birthdays, special dates etc. Its produced by Box Clever Press (links below) and I would be lost without it.

I also asked for Ferns Cotton Happy The Journal & Ruby Wax Frazzled. Im hugely into mindfulness and positive thinking. Not always easy when having a bad day and the old anxiety kicks in but in general seeing the good in a tough situation is the way forward. Not had chance to have a good look at these books yet but looking forward to filling in the journal every day.
Im not too worried because I know getting back into healthy eating and will soon see the pounds disappear along with the heart burn!

I love Christmas crafting, Ive made lots of new things this year but Im especially in love with these baubles and pinecone wreath. The baubles were just clear plain and I added some sparkly nail polish inside and swirled it around until I got the desired effect on both baubles then the pink one I decorated with a glue gun! The effect is gorgeous

The pinecone has been a labour of love. Lots of collecting cones, cleaning and drying them out then spraying twice with colour then again with sparkle spray. More drying out in the garage to get rid of the paint spray then eventually 7 glue sticks later and the finished project and I love it!

Weeks whizz by and its just dawned on my that we are more than half way through the year & all the things I wanted to do this year I haven't! I like lists in fact I love lists. The problem is I spend ages making wonderful planners and hours filling them in organising my life but then don't follow them through. My intentions are great, I've got all the solutions to time management I just don't follow them through!

This wee I decided to start again with yet another planner so on goes the computer at 8am ready to design and print off to find the laptop has a virus so Ive spent all day fixing that. Finally at 2pm I design and print off my new planner.

It's nice and simple and does exactly what I want it to do. I've road tested my daily planner and its working very nicely. Every morning or sometimes the night before I fill in my goals and must dos. My goals are ongoing. I might not achieve all or even any of them today but they are my ultimate wishes and might be the same or I might have new ones tomorrow!

Today's must dos are exactly that, these are things I have to do today & can't put off.

The other two boxes are also self explanatory. I'm finding it very satisfying to put a big line through or tick next to the tasks Ive achieved & this week dare I say it Im feeling organised!
Feel free to use this planner for yourself.

**BANANA HAIR CARE REVIEW***

I've had The Bodyshop banana hair mask for a little while and today was the day to test it out! Well I am very impressed. I used the banana shampoo and then the mask. Left it on for about 5 minutes whilst I body scrubbed with then new French Grape Seed Scrub! Blow dried and straightened my hair. Ive NOT added any serums or shine sprays. This is just the results from the shampoo and mask only. Check out that shine! My hair is soooo soft and bouncy. No tangles either when wet so all you long haired girlies you need this. Long hair is high maintenance, it does take looking after but this was EASY and the results are plain to see. Incidentally my 7 year old son loves the banana shampoo too :)

Who would have thought the words grapes, jelly and frozen would go together but wow this is one treat you have to try!

Simple grab a punnet of grapes and chop the grapes in half. Pop in a container and sprinkle on one sachet of sugar free jelly crystals. Give a good shake then pop in the freezer!

Yummy straight out the freezer or leave to thaw for a few minutes for a sweet treat

Its not the first time Ive batch cooked but its certainly been a while. Whilst feeling enthusiastic I checked out the fridge, freezer and pantry and worked out what meals I was going to make and what extra ingredients I would need.

Based on this information my menu looked like this

Gammon dinner with mash and peas

Beef and ale stew with mash and veg

Dirty Rice

Meat balls with couscous and broccoli

Tortilla boats with mince and rice

Next day off to Home Bargains I go to purchase Tupperware! Yep the dreaded Tupperware but needs must and after what felt like an hour studying the various items on sale I settled on several different sizes. Quick trip to Coop for fresh veg and its off into The Kelly kitchen.

First job is to get the slow cookers on. In one goes a gammon joint and half a can of diet coke. I'l return to this much later.

In the 2nd slow cooker I'm cooking the beef and ale stew. I'm using some rump steak out the freezer. Its never going to get eaten any other way so may as well use it up. I cut it into small chunks, add handful of frozen chopped onions and chardonnay carrots and the beef and ale stock sauce and leave it to cook for 4 hours as per instructions.

Next up is dirty rice, such an easy and tasty meal, freezes well and is incredibly filling.

Start by cooking rice as my perfect rice instructions. Meanwhile in a hot pan fry off some lean bacon with 5% fat mince, chopped onion and any other vegetables of your choice. I added diced peppers. Once the rice is cooked add to the cooked meat/veg and combine well. Add Worcester sauce and Cajun spice to taste. Remember you can add more but you cant take it away so a little at a time. Box up into portions with added speed vegetables. A lot of people are concerned about reheating rice. I'm not an expert but personally I always cool rice quickly then store in fridge or freezer then when reheating ensure it is HOT!

Next up inbetween the washing up is meat balls. By the way top tip when bulk cooking is to keep kitchen tidy as possible and wash up after every meal.

Currently in Iceland you can purchase 3 meat items for £10. I purchased one 5% fat minced beef and two packs of 5% fat meatballs. Of course you can make the meat balls easy enough yourself but I'm all for the simple life. So in a huge saucepan in goes 24 meatballs with carton of passata, cup of water, handful of frozen onions and a sachet of Maggi italian Meatball seasoning which is 3 syns. Bring to boil then leave on a simmer until the meatballs are cooked through.

I boxed these up with vegetable couscous and broccoli.

I had an excess of sauce left over from the meatballs and rice that didnt get used for the dirty rice so waste not want not I had a hunt in the pantry. I found some Old El Paso Stand n Stuff Soft Tortillas, these are 3.5 syns each. I popped one in a box, added meatball sauce, rice, chopped peppers, cherry tomatoes and a bit of cheese.

I've since eaten one of these and its absolutely amazing. Thawed it during the day then pinged in the microwave for a few minutes. DELICIOUS

I'd still got few hours before the slow cooker meals would be ready so used my time to prepare salad and fruit.

Finally the beef stew is ready. Whilst it was cooking I boiled and mashed up some potatoes ready to box up the meals with lots of frozen vegetables

Nearly finished, its been a lot of washing up thats for sure! The gammon is cooked to perfection just crumbling apart. Boxed up with mashed potato and mushy peas. Gorgeous

And that's it! After labeling up the boxes and adding to the freezers I'm all done. In addition to these cooked meals I had a freezer organisation and boxed up some frozen foods into boxed meals for added convenience.

One week later - So far Ive tried the meatballs, tortilla, dirty rice and of course Ive eaten the fridge stored pasta and fruits. Ive been impressed with everything so far, no complaints or changes required. Tomorrows meals look like this. We couldnt decide whether to have gammon or beef so got one of each out the freezer so we can choose individually tomorrow evening. My lunch is jacket with couscous and breakfast is overnight oats.

I'd definitely recommend batch cooking. It does take some planning and lots of time. But time spent in one go means less cooking and washing up later! Remember to write a list of what goes in the freezer and knock off as you eat them then you always know what meals you have left.

It's so cold my hands are freezing but my gloves are in the car. My nose is running and the only tissue I have is one of Nats cast off 'cure all playground injuries' paper towel which is so course if feels like sandpaper and if my nose wasn't so cold I'd probably feel the blood running down my face after my skin has been burred off by the paper towel. My cheeks are rosy, who actually wants rosy cheeks. Natural red raw cheeks actually looks like rosacea, it really isn't pretty.

My perfectly brushed hair is windswept. It may look lovely on a 6 foot model standing by the beach with a wind machine blowing at her. Hair blown across my eyes and mouth actually means I nearly crash into mom with 4 kids and 2 pushchairs taking up every inch of the path forcing me into the road infront of a speeding teenager in a Ford Focus with souped up alloys and a dodgy paint job.

And then there are dog walkers, how much path do they need. FFS missis wind the lead in, your happy Pomeranian Italian long haired whippet schitzu cross does not have right of way. And it really does not want to sit at the road junction no matter how many times you say Holly sit to it. Holly doesn't want to sit to cross the road, she wants to be let off the lead and be allowed to chase the annoying 50cc motorbike that is zooming up the High Street.

Oh and shall we get started on all the early moms that arrive half an hour before gates open but hog all of the path so nobody can get past. How dare I want to stand the other side of them. I can practically see the 'who does she think she is' thoughts running through their heads as I stand quite a way from them and lean up the wall to rest my aching back & just check out Facebook while I wait. Oh bugger battery flat.

Im forced to listed to the mean girls inane conversation. If only my life was as exciting as theirs I too would be able to discuss this mornings Jeremy Kyle, the new 50 shades movie & how well little Alastair is doing in reading.

Look the teacher is opening the gate & in they surge. It's a race who get in the gates first. Do they not realise 2 pushchairs & a toddler will not all fit at same time. The playground is a dangerous place when you arrive out of routine. Where shall I go? I'm way too early. I don't know where to stand or who to talk to. It's pressure! Thank goodness my sister arrives but she starts to shout at me! Oooops my faults. I'd arranged to take all the boys home with me tonight and I hadn't forgot, I had been thinking how I was going to avoid of one of them getting run over on walk home. Unfortunately my brain hadnt comprehended that if I was talking boys home my sister wouldn't be at school and I had texted her just before phone went flat saying hurry up so she thought I'd forgot!

There is something rather humbling about your little sister berating you over the heads of the other moms! Eventually all 3 boys emerge and the smalls start their daily fight and running over the other side of the playground. Dragging by the hoods we get them out the gates for Nat to fall and burst into tears. Back breaking I carry him to Heathers car where all hell breaks out because Kian sat in the middle. Calm for a just a few mere seconds before Kian clobbers Theo across the face and Theo screams. Nat laughs and Heather shouts at them all! Finally after a short walk home with Nat and Theo I sit in peace whilst I listen to them destroy upstairs.

Wine anyone?

Let's compare this to me alone in my car.

Get in car, drive to school singing loudly along to radio. Stay in warm car until last minute. Walk straight onto playground, wait just a few minutes until Nat comes out & we leave with the normal Theo/Nat cousin battle but it's only 30 seconds into car. Arrive home, have a chat with Nat then leave him to play.

Like I said walking is overrated!

Kies Worldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15250969628338072546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7621127775421603790.post-63303133646838014842016-03-04T16:39:00.000+00:002016-03-04T16:39:13.684+00:00Photos!

I love taking photographs, I snap away on my phone camera all the time to capture instant memories mainly of my son! However lovely as these instant pics are the quality just isn't so great.

I've had many really good cameras over the years and last Autumn I decided to upgrade my compact Nikon to a SLR.

Before you know it computer is filling up with hundreds of photographs to admire and smile over in years to come. I thought about when I was a child and we enjoyed adding photographs to albums and me and my sister would sit for hours laughing at photos of our parents from the 70s. You can't get that connection from thousands of photographs stored on a memory card or usb stick.

I spent several hours last week sorting through just 2015 photographs and designing them into photo books from Photobox. It took a while because I'm a but of a perfectionist and I had a lot of photographs to search through. The books have arrived today and I'm more than happy. I believe I chose the correct images to remember memories.

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and no I'm not tied to the oven or the sink. I work at the kitchen table, music & coffee machine on. We sit and chat in the kitchen, we eat all our meals at the table & it really is the heart and soul of our house. I often look at Pinterest and see pictures of beautiful kitchens and my heart aches for a lottery win so I can buy a house with a room like this

http://www.picthouse.info/white-french-country-kitchen-cabinets/
My kitchen actually looks like this, its not minimulist or perfect but I love it and even more now my lovely mom spent three days last week emptying every single cupboard and drawer and reorganising it. My mom has an amazing skill for seeing a room and making it better and I want to share these tips with you.

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">My kitchen is pretty large, we knocked the small dining room and kitchen into one large room and moved the door to take advantage of the space as soon as we moved in. And yes my mom designed this kitchen too.

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;"><span face=""verdana" , sans-serif">

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif">Hands up I admit that until last week I had far too much stuff shoved in cupboards and drawers and to my shame we even found a packet of crisps hidden at the back of one cupboard that were out of date in 2009! Not anymore though. Lets start with those hundreds of crisp packets that we buy in multipacks and then cant store them. Oh yes and lets not forget all the bottles of juice, plastic cups, plates, straws and in this house milkshakes! Crisps are now kept in a large plastic box that fits easily in the cupboard. Simply pull it out, grab what you need and put away! All the kids stuff is easy to hand so they can help themselves to a drink or plate.

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;"><span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">Next up is the spice cabinet. If you are like me you have loads of jars of herbs, spices, stocks and flavourings. We do love our Slimming World but you do need to have a hearty collection of these and they can take over. Well after emptying my cupboard we found not one, not two but five bottles of balsamic vinegar! Lets get them organised. Throw away any out of date jars, organise them so you can find them easily. I use this pull out draw system to quickly find what I need. And what a great idea to store stock cubes.

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">I have a cupboard thats really difficult to get to with my kitchen table so we (I say we, I mean my mom) decided to use this cupboard to store things that are not used on a daily basis such as equipment and baking things. Again storing things in boxes makes life so much easier, just slide the box out, no emptying the contents of the cupboard all over the floor anymore!

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">

Didnt actually realise how many cake cutters I have!

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">Onto food storage, my mom is a firm believer of storing things with the same as so tins should be with tins, pasta, rice, couscous etc should be together, desserts should be together. You get the idea? This is four different cupboards all very neatly organised.

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">We've recently discovered we love herbal teas and the boxes of different flavours were taking over the cupboard so I had (yes me) had an idea. Take the teabags out the boxes and put them into ziplock bags not forgetting to cut the label from the box. All neatly stored into a plastic box on a really narrow shelf.

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">Having an organised kitchen makes a huge difference when planning and cooking, its the little things that make a difference - having chopping boards to hand, knowing exactly where things are, keeping it simple, de cluttering often!

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">

<span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="font-family: helvetica;">Finally I have what I think in the USA is known as a control centre. Think we just call it a calendar and pin board but hey control centre sounds far fancier. This is my bit, its when the wall planners are, pens, scissors, sticky tape, note books, notice board, school letters, recipe books etc are.

Well after 12 months I still refer to him as big John and that's because he's our gentle giant at 6.4. John has embraced Food optimising & loves cooking, making new recipes & meals. He cooks for the whole family and his lovely lady Sharon has lost nearly 5 stone :) John has lost an incredible amount of weight & I'm incredibly proud along with our 7.30 members who have watched John and Sharon shrink before our eyes.
<span face=""helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif">Up early this morning to get the lamb in the slow cooker ready to slice and freeze.

Large leg of lamb is resting on handful of Chardonnay carrots, sliced potatoes, vegetable stock & garlic seasoning. Cook for 10 hours on low.

I also cooked a beef brisket in the slow cooker. I added 1 sliced onion, tbsp Worcester sauce & stock cube and cooked for 10 hours.

The finished result of the beef brisket - Meat all cut, gravy poured over and portioned. I made three of these and each one serves two adults. These cook from frozen at a medium heat for approximately 45 minutes.

Two very easy,& cheap meals, just add potatoes & vegetables :)
